The Gondwana Station at Terra Nova Bay, Ross Sea was erected by GANOVEX III in 1983.

Initially it was just a bivouac hut which was converted into a summer station by GANOVEX V expedition (1988/89). In 2005-06 GANOVEX IX expedition explored 150 km from the station away from the ice, towering cliffs and plateaus of northern Victoria Land with the help of two helicopters. Well-preserved fossils of plants and insect remains were examined, among other things at the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena and the Technical University of Freiberg.

The main building consists of containers and includes repair, staff and working rooms, a kitchen, sanitary facilities, a generator station and a seawater treatment plant. The station has a small biological wastewater treatment plant. BGR makes the Gondwana Station available to other working groups upon request.
Also, the associated settlement "Lillie Marleen" hut was built to support the work of the GANOVEX.
