Little America was a series of Antarctic stations situated on the Ross Ice Shelf :
Little America I (78 °40S - 164°03W), Little America II (78° 40S - 164°02W),
Little America III (78° 35S- 163°52W), Little America IV (78°35S- 163°53W).

The Little America V station (78°19S-162°22W) was established at Kainan Bay in January 1956 and served as the American base in the South Polar Program in the International Polar Year.

The station became covered by the snow line in the ice, with individual living quarters, generator room, cafeteria, and with ramps leading out at one end for tracked vehicles. Finally the site of Little America V went to sea and disappeared on iceberg B-9 in 1987.
